Femi Fani-Kayode must be set free now! Enough of political detentions in the zoo called Nigeria. Set all political prisoners free, especially Biafrans!
The fearless Yoruba lion; the thorn in the flesh of the evil Nigerian government – led by despotic Muhammadu Buhari – was re-arrested recently on Friday, October 21, this year. Buhari’s Gestapo Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) were the ones that arrested him in a court premises.
Nobody is under any illusion that his arrest was a result of the lie called anti-corruption fight, which Buhari’s government claims to be prosecuting. It was only an attempt to silence him for refusing to accept the bumbling incompetence of Buhari and his fumbling government, as many others have shamelessly done. Kayode was stepping out after attending a hostile court session, in which the trial judge continuously threatened him and his defence lawyer, when two insolent men from the EFCC accosted him. They forced him into their car, and took him to their office. Since then he has been in their custody under illegal detention.
Now, latest information indicated that he would be arraigned in court on November 10, and charged with fresh charges. But there are rumors that he would not be allowed to go home on that date, even if granted bail. The rumors have it that he would be held on fresh charges of collecting 22 Million Naira from the country’s former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki as part of the much talked-about $2: 1 Billion arms deal, for which many were arrested last year. Meanwhile it is an arms deal talk which many people have come to know as a hoax and a sham. What Buhari’s government calls arms-deal is the disbursement of security votes which governments have never been questioned about.
Even though the rumors were rejected by the EFCC as a lie, few people believe them. EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, was reported to have dismissed the rumor as being without foundation. But it did not stop speculations accusing the EFCC of fresh shenanigans, with which they hope to use in keeping him behind bars for a long period.
But Fani-Kayode’s spokesperson, Mr. Ndukwe, believed the EFCC man was lying. “Yes, we’ve been hearing that they have several matters lined up for which they will use to continue to detain him indefinitely” he said. Ndukwe, who described the EFCC as a “lawless organisation” lamented that it was a very dark period in the history of Nigeria.
He reminded people of the world that Fani-Kayode’s latest arrest of October 21 was done without a warrant of arrest or a detention order. Expressing his deep belief that EFCC was not in a hurry to let his principal go, Ndukwe declared: “Even if he is granted bail 100 times, the EFCC will still re-arrest him 100 times. Please let me repeat, the EFCC is a lawless organisation.”
Fani-Kayode was a former minister of aviation and former Director of Media and Publicity for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign Committee in 2015. Since Buhari was rigged into office by the duo of Barrack Obama of United States of America (USA) and David Cameron of United Kingdom (UK), Fani-Kayode have been writing articles and opinions on Buhari, his miss-governance, and attempts to Islamize Nigeria. Buhari and his men have been quite uncomfortable with his articles, and the way he was exposing the ills of Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision to keep him permanently behind bars came recently after he exposed EFCC plans to intimidate him for his coming court appearance on October 21. He said that was why his wife and eight months old son were detained in Ekiti State on October 10, 2016. It took the intervention of the state governor, Ayo Fayose, to set them free.
That was why in a widely publicized response, Fani-Kayode challenged Buhari, urging him to leave his family alone and face him if he was a man: “This government is sick and cowardly and so is the EFCC. If you have a problem with me, face me and leave my family alone.”
Buhari and his Gestapo men have taken the challenge to have him arrested three months ago, and since then they have kept him in their custody hoping to keep him there for a long time. This is why people of conscience all over the world should stand against Buhari and force him to release all political prisoners in the country, the likes of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB); all Biafrans; and Femi Fani-Kayode.
