The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on the director general (DG) of Department of State Security (DSS) to resign from his job before it is too late. The Sun reports that the warning was contained in the statement made by Emma Powerful, the media and publicity secretary of the IPOB, on Thursday, April 14. According to the group, if the DG is not removed, he will continue to cause more problems that may lead to ethnic crisis in the country. Further in its statement, IPOB condemned the DSS for constantly harassing its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and ransacking his room in Kuje Prison.

“IPOB is calling for the DSS DG to resign now before it is too late, if he does not resign or be sacked by the Senate, he will plunge Nigeria into another civil war. “We, (IPOB) reiterated about the life of our leader who is being detained illegally in the DSS custody for months but now in Kuje prison and the constant alarms about plots to eliminate him. “In view of this, the life of our leader is no longer safe in prison custody. The DSS has been digging so dip to nail our leader but no way. “Nnamdi Kanu decided to stay with some prison inmates inside one apartment because of the constant harassment by the DSS and also the constant harassment by the DSS and prison authorities to make things difficult for him,” the statement read in part.

The group also alleged that the federal government and the security agency were planning to transfer Kanu to the DSS custody or to the Maiduguri prison where Boko Haram members are detained. Therefore, it called on international community, Amnesty International, all human rights organisations to take note because if anything happens to Kanu, IPOB will not take it easy.

Earlier this week, IPOB officially reacted to the statementreleased by the DSS on the discovery of shallow graves in Abia state.

Emma Powerful stressed that IPOB was not a violent organisation and noted that the statement by the DSS was aimed at instigating ethnic violence among Nigerians.
